Soccer drills you can do alone
Training alone is where players actually separate. Team sessions are shared between twenty people and pitched at the middle of the group. Forty five minutes on your own, structured properly, gives you more touches than a full team training. The problem is that most solo sessions have no structure, so they turn into aimless juggling. This one has an order and a clock.
Minutes 0 to 10: ball mastery
Start with volume on the ball. Inside touches, outside touches, sole rolls, toe taps. Sixty seconds on, twenty seconds off.
The only rule that matters here is that your head is up on every repetition. Ball mastery done staring at your feet builds a skill you cannot use in a game.
- Inside, outside, sole rolls, toe taps
- 60 seconds on, 20 seconds off
- Head up on every rep
Minutes 10 to 30: wall work
The wall is the most underrated training partner in the sport. It never gets tired and it returns the ball exactly as badly as you passed it.
Start with one touch passing. Then receive and turn. Then first time volleys. Both feet throughout, not just the comfortable one.
- One touch passing
- Then receive and turn
- Then first time volleys
- Both feet throughout
Minutes 30 to 45: finishing
Finish with forty shots at any target you can find. Placement rather than power, and half of them with your weak foot.
If you have a goal, finish across the keeper rather than at them. If you do not, pick a specific spot on a wall and hold yourself to hitting it.
- 40 shots at any target
- Placement, never power
- Half of them weak foot
- Finish across the keeper
